Project Update*

It's been a challenging couple of weeks trying to get my Lacie and Mac computers to cooperate with one another but I've got all the kinks worked out and now I'm in business with Final Cut. I've begun to edit the first few seconds of footage!

This will be quite a tedious and pain stacking task considering I have 3 hours of footage to cut down to about 8 to 10 minutes story.

I've slated the idea of placing myself with in the documentary. I was inspired by Abigail Disney approach to media and current events. In a lunch Q&A after the convocation a couple of weeks ago she discussed how she purposely did not allow herself in to the narration of documentary. She allowed the media images, footage and the women involved with the peace movement to speak for-themselves.

I commend Disney for taking this approach especially to this socially/politically charged story. Their are a lot of individuals and celebrities who make philanthropic efforts to get kudos and to gain attention from hollywood.(Not to say that their efforts are not positive )

I want to challenge myself just as Disney has done in allowing the footage to speak for itself. The story will very much so be about my experience but I want to go as far as I can creatively with my footage with out using my own narration to fill in spots for my documentary.

I want my story to be as raw as possible.

  1. well, it looks as if you are making progress. It will take time i know because we are doing similar thing with the editing. I also think it is very interesting but at the same time it good idea to capture our viewers attention by having them ask themselves questions or have their own interpretation to the story rather than feeding them with it just as the women in Abby Disney' movie spoke for themselves.

  2. wow, Im proud of you for keeping the hard work up, technical difficulties are trying but, in the end I always enjoy believing that all be grand

Raw is the best way, at least in my eyes=D

I've actually been challenging myself also to use improv and create the things that iI am aiming to convey in my project by simply acting them out myself in ways.

Its been great, and as long as you have accomplished what your hear desires you'll be great. Yes allowing the footage to speak for itself will always carry a dynamic force behind it, especially when you have captured everything you originally and in the end wanted to. Once yo press play, you'll be able to sit back and soak in all your hard work!=D

just continue to map how you want to physically be more part of your project, tack time to allow your ideas to alter a bit, and or grow further, and you'll be set!

  3. It sounds like you're making good headway. It might be a bit hard keeping yourself out of your film. In my opinion, no matter what you do, you will be a part of your film. After all, you chose what you wanted to film and what you wanted to include in it... so that already shows what is important to you. With 3 hours of footage, it seem fairly likely that you will be able to put together some sort of string of footage that does speak for itself... but you may have to add something else... I'm not sure what at this point.

  4. I talked to Prof. Tim Troy last week and he told me a lot about his trip in China this winter and how he changed his opinions and had a better understanding about China, have you thought about including interviews of Troy and Finkler as well?

  5. Narration can tie the pieces together. Your voice may be an important part of this story?
